Where to Find Craft Chocolate in Austin, Texas (78727)
Austin will always hold a special place in my heart: I lived there for more than a decade and began my career as a writer there. For some reason there aren’t any bean-to-bar makers located in Austin, though. Maybe it’s the heat? Regardless, some stores are starting to carry some great chocolate. Here’s a list in your neighborhood.
This specialty cheese shop also carries a small but great assortment of bean-to-bar chocolate and other chocolatey treats. I did a chocolate-and-cheese-pairing class here on my book tour and will do one again next time I’m in town!

Central Market
This upscale grocery chain has really embraced bean-to-bar chocolate! They carry an amazingly huge selection of hard-to-find brands like Dandelion and Amedei, and they even started making their own bars recently. I haven’t tried them yet, but grab one and let me know what you think.

Whole Foods
Yet another upscale grocery chain that has a big selection of chocolate. Most of the stuff here is pretty industrial, but look for Askinosie bars at the flagship location as well as Taza and Raaka.

I’m obsessed with Tessa Halstead’s shop on Burnet Road. In addition to other confections, she uses bean-to-bar chocolate from makers like Amano and Fresco to create single-origin bonbons that blow my mind.

I can’t guarantee that this locale has a big selection, but they do carry Dick Taylor, one of my favorite brands that seems extra hard to find in Austin. Check them out!
